  • Before you can start your driving lessons you need to have a provisional driving license. Therefore, if you do not have one you will need to apply for one from the DVLA.
  • You can obtain a provisional driving licence up to 3 months before your seventeenth birthday.
  • Application forms are available from your local post office or from upon request.
  • You can book your theory test to take place on or shortly after your seventeenth birthday provided you have a provisional driving licence.
  • It is usually only necessary to give a few days notice to take this test and results should be issued on the same day.
  • However, it is important to remember that the waiting time for practical driving tests is between 6 - 10 weeks.
  • recommends combining your theory study with the early part of your driving course, thus  giving you the added advantage of being able to consult your instructor on various matters relating to your theory study,
  • Once you had passed your theory test your instructor can book your driving test and schedule the remaining part of your driving lessons to ensure you are fully prepared and ready to pass your practical test by the time the test day arrives.
